Women’s History Month: Celebrating Akbar’s Leader Attorney Brandi Thomas

Today, the last day of Women’s History Month, we want to acknowledge a woman that has helped this firm to grow and continue to improve the lives of everyone she touches.

Attorney Brandi Thomas joined the Akbar Law Firm (ALF) in 2013, after relocating from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Tallahassee, Florida. Prior to joining ALF, Attorney Thomas owned her own law firm where she handled primarily civil and family law matters.

Prior to starting and operating her own firm, Attorney Thomas was an Assistant Public Defender in Broward County’s Public Defender’s Office, representing those who needed an attorney but couldn’t afford one.

Attorney Thomas has a heart of service, and the mind of a great leader.

She was elected as the President of the Tallahassee Barristers Association, where she served two terms. Since 2013, Attorney Thomas has been actively engaged in the Legal Aid Foundation (LAF) of Tallahassee. She not only continues to provide pro bono assistance through LAF, but she also gives her time as a board member of the Foundation.

Attorney Thomas is the Immediate Past President of the Legal Aid Foundation, and continues to use both her heart and mind to serve families not only here in Tallahassee, but throughout the State of Florida.

She has served on the board of the Tallahassee Bar Association, Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association, Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce Women’s Leadership Council, member of her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and recently served as a volunteer General Counsel for the Tallahassee Junior League. In addition to the many hats that she wears, she serves as a mentor to many young attorneys and aspiring attorneys.

Attorney Thomas’ achievements go beyond the courtroom and inside her community; not only is she a budding horticulturist, she is also the wife of Dr. Nicholas Thomas and mother to their two beautiful children.

This month, while it is so important to acknowledge our extraordinary women leaders, it is also equally important to recognize our emerging leaders who are now changing the landscape of our communities and our justice system.

We thank Attorney Thomas for her heart of service, her leadership, and being a living personification of her personal philosophy.  “Grow where you are planted.”
